Tanai Wellness & SPA
How would you like for the space to embrace you? For the light, colors, sounds, and ceiling height to create a sense of tranquility?
In creating the “Tanai” wellness & spa resort, our goal was not just to create a pleasant or neutral space, but to create a healing, curing, and therapeutic environment. By influencing the mind through color, light, and spatial volumes, we can achieve amazing results, relaxing and calming the individual. Relieving stress and eliminating fatigue is the path to mental and physical health.
The best clinics, sanatoriums, and spa centers in the world design their interiors so that people would feel psychologically relaxed and would want to return to a friendly place. We decided to engage all the visitor’s senses and give them the opportunity to return for these sensations again and again, and again.
We created a spa that is as inviting as it is warm. Applying the techniques from color therapy we combined deep natural colors with soft amber lighting, we relied on the philosophy of pristine natural materials and incorporated stone, wood, and cork in the design, referencing deep traditions of water and steam treatments in various cultures around the world. Sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, float chamber – the spa complex is designed so that guests can experience different relaxation practices during a short course of treatment and rest.
Upon entering, guests are greeted by a reception desk made of onyx stone veneer, which has the ability to transmit light, creating a cozy, warm, and welcoming atmosphere. Veneered panels were also installed on the walls and ceiling in the main hall, lounge area, and corridor. The lighting is soft, diffused, and warm, while in the massage room, the dominant colors are deep blueberry and berry shades on the ceiling and light fixtures. For guests with limited mobility, special bathroom equipment and widened doorways are provided.
Every detail has been thoughtfully considered – rounded lines, light volumes, natural colors, plants, and driftwood are used in the decor. Amber and forest motifs stop time, inviting guests to disconnect from the eternal race and rush, to slow down and focus on their body and sensations.
The main goal of this project was to breathe new life into the space of a sanatorium with a Soviet past. The deadlines were short, and the site was quite remote – it was a challenging project that tested our resilience, but we persevered.
Looking back, we are proud of what we accomplished – we managed to completely transform outdated spaces, we overcame the building’s architecture, which tried to dictate its own terms to us, and we created a relaxing, warm, and simultaneously modern spa complex.
